Temptations

Religious people are tempted too

Temptations are every day things and religion is the perfect disguise for those who want to be tempted and should know better.

When things get a bit much in life it’s easy to be tempted to do something to put them right and when someone close to us is hurt it’s tempting to get revenge on their behalf. But something within most of us helps us to avoid the temptation to do something which might either get us into trouble or hurt another person.

Bu there are still occasions when temptation can overcome the voice in our head telling us not to do it. When these people are overcome by their temptations it’s easy to criticise and it makes it ten times easier to point the finger when the people are religious.

The Scriptures tell us that Abraham was going to kill his son until God gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead and that the Devil tried to tempt Jesus from following God by promising everything he felt he wanted.

So maybe temptations are natural. And with most of the world facing the prospect of settling back into work after Christmas, I know I didn’t want to return. With food stuffing the house out and being overrun by chocolate for the past few weeks I know I’d rather be eating than working.

But it’s how we handle the temptations that’s what makes the difference. So whatever your temptations are, remember it’s normal to be tempted but our reactions to them that can either make or break us.
