How Do We Show Respect?

What We Need is Something Genuine

Society is full of people doing and saying things because they feel they should, but it's about time we did things because we know it's the right thing to do.

Respect is about politeness and manners. It can involve reciprocal behaviour where we do something for someone because they have done something for us; it can be about humbling ourselves and “knowing our place” in society; it can be about listening and waiting our turn, not pushing into queues and saying our pleases and thank yous.

But I feel it’s also about doing our best for ourselves, accepting who we are, our capabilities, achievements and limitations; and also about our treatment of others. We should feel compelled to be the best people we can because of the rewards we can gain in this life and the afterlife and just because it gives everyone involved a nice warm, fuzzy feeling of doing something good.

Part of this is about doing the best for those around us. We need to show each other respect because respect leads to co-operation which means there is less conflict and a more peaceful and productive time on Earth.

And I believe the only way to do all this is to really treat everyone as individuals. Scrap the pointless and meaningless targets which highlight our differences and start from scratch looking only at who we really are and what we really need.

Can anyone guess that this week I’ve been really fed up with this rubbish?
